Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology (GDIIST) is a non-profit institution founded by the Guangdong Province in June 26, 2021. It was co-constructed by Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin,  Zhuhai Municipal People's Government and Guangdong Science and Technology Department. The Academic Committee of GDIIST is comprised of academicians and well-known scientists in relevant research fields.

GDIIST focuses on three main fields of Brain Perception and Cognition, Brain-inspired Intelligent Computing, and Neural Network Computing. It establishes six research centers (Cognitive Neural Networks, Brain-inspired Computing Systems, Brain-Computer Interaction Systems, Biomedical Intelligence, Cognitive Maps and Brain-inspired Models, and Financial Business Intelligence), and three technical platforms (Neural Network Structure and Function Technology Platform, Brain Database and Information Technology Platform, Cognitive Intelligent Computing Technology Platform). It builds the Hengqin Advanced Intelligent Computing Platform, constructing a large-scale public scientific infrastructure with an internationally leading level of Brain-inspired fusion intelligent supercomputing systems and technological application ecosystem. Additionally, GDIIST establishes the GBA Research Center for Brain-Intelligence Engineering, creating an international research and innovation network, academic and talent exchange, and technology transfer platform. It aims to solve challenges in brain neural network technology, intelligent chip technology, intelligent computing technology, intelligent information network technology, financial business intelligence technology, smart biomedicine, and health care technology. It focuses on constructing three core capabilities in research, scientific facility, and translation around intelligent technology to establish a new type of R&D institution that connects the entire chain of scientific and technological innovation.

GDIIST, Hengqin Advanced Intelligent Computing Platform, and GBA Research Center for Brain-Intelligence Engineering constitute a "trinity," establishing the "Guangdong Laboratory for Cognitive Science and Brain-inspired Intelligence Technology", with plans for future establishment as a national-level laboratory. It serves as an important scientific and technological support for Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai, and the "Western Point" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center, promoting the development of medical and health care, digital economy, and characteristic financial industries.
