Dr. Cai graduated from Shandong University with a B.S. degree in 2011 and received his Ph.D. degree in Neurobiology from the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ION) in 2018. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Cai conducted his postdoctoral research in Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2018 - 2020). Dr. Cai joined the lab of somatosensory Neural Networks (LSNN) of the Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Science and Technology (GDIIST) as an Assistant Investigator in 2021.
Research interests:
His research mainly focused on understanding how neural network transmit somatosensory information through spinal projection neurons and dissecting the functional changes of spinal ascending projections under chronic pain by using a combination of viral tracing, electrophysiological, single-cell sequencing, optogenetic and behavioral techniques.
