Introduction to the Brain-on-a-Chip Joint Laboratory
The Joint Lab of Brain-inspired Chips is jointly established by Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Science and Technology and Zhuhai Tianqin Core Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. The joint laboratory aims to develop brain-inspired intelligent computing chips, draw on the energy-efficient event-driven processing mechanism of biological brains, and build the world's leading programmable and easily scalable multi-scale brain-inspired chips and corresponding computing systems, with the goal of achieving comprehensive leading advantages in ultra-large-scale brain model simulation, graph network analysis and computing (social network analysis, financial fraud analysis, protein/material structure prediction, etc.), and industrial simulation solution based on dynamic equations.
Introduction of the Director of the Joint Laboratory
Dr. Fangxiong Zhang, Director of the Joint Laboratory, obtained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and has been engaged in brain science research for more than 20 years, published more than 40 SCI research articles. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Shanghai Brain-Intelligence Engineering Center, the Executive Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Brain-Intelligence Engineering Center, and the Executive Director of Zhuhai Tianqinxin Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.
Huan Yuxiang, director of the joint laboratory, researcher of Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Science and Technology, leader of the research group of brain-inspired computing architecture and ultra-large-scale processing system. He received his Ph.D. in microelectronics and solid-state electronics from Fudan University, and served as an assistant researcher at the School of Information Science and Engineering of Fudan University, and an associate researcher and researcher at the Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Science and Technology. Dr. Huan has long conducted research on the design and application of domain-specific processing architecture (DSA) in chip systems, focusing on the research of distributed interconnection processing architecture and design methods from chips to systems, including domain-specific processors with reconfigurable and scalable architectures, energy-efficient acceleration and distributed processing of deep learning models, neuromorphic application-specific integrated circuits, and ultra-large-scale brain-like computing systems. During his tenure at the Institute of Intelligence, Dr. Huan led the team to complete the development of a billion-level neuron-scale brain-inspired prototype verification system, the development of the Tianqin core brain-like computing chip, and the development of the Tianqin core marine brain-like wafer computing chip and prototype system. He has presided over and participated in a number of national, provincial and ministerial projects, and has published more than 40 academic papers and applied for more than 20 invention patents.
